A new “thing” for me

In my life, I have a lot of “things” that I do; let’s just say that I like to keep busy. However, I have come to the realization that I might need a new things.

Over the last year, I have been incredibly fortunate to participate in the Executive Leaders Program at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security. If you aren’t familiar with this program, or with the Center, I would highly recommend that you look into it. They have multiple other programs, including a Masters program, which also comes highly regarded. But I digress…the important part here is the format of the program.

For 1 week per quarter over the last year, I have had the opportunity to listen to lectures and presentations from homeland security professionals from around the globe. More importantly, or class has been able to discuss, converse, and share – not only with our lecturers, but also each other. With 32 homeland security professionals from a wide range of background in the cohort, the dynamic even between those of us in the class was a great opportunity for sharing and collaborating. And it is in that spirit of sharing and collaboration I decided to embark on this new “thing.”

I will not profess to be an expert in this field (although I will say that I’m pretty good at what I do), but I feel that sharing is important. During my last ELP session, we had a discussion on staying actively engaged, and I feel that individually, I need to do more to keep myself learning and growing. I also hope that this blog will garner additional conversation on selected topics in the community. Most of my posts will be on the topics that are of particular interest to me, although certainly not exclusively. As log. As there is shared value for me and anyone who reads these posts – if anyone reads them, of course.

Of course, I want this site to be a resource as well. I have been fortunate to find/stumble across a number of tricks, tools, and resources. I plan on posting those links the the resource area whenever I can. I am also privileged to have been asked to speak on a number of different topics, both through my work and otherwise; when possible, I also hope to post my presentations here to be a resource for others.
